A couple who just lost their baby has rescued a four-day-old baby that was buried alive in a cemetery in northern India.
According to CNN, the couple living in Uttar Pradesh state had gone to the cemetery on October 10, to bury their child who had died in the hospital, and in the process of digging the ground, they found a baby girl buried in an earthen pot.
The couple said they heard noises of crying and they had to dig up to two to three feet of dirt before they found the baby girl.
This was made known by the Superintendent of Police for Bareilly district, Abhinandan Singh.
He said, “When they began digging the ground, they immediately heard noises of crying. As they dug up two to three feet of dirt, they found a baby girl who had been buried in an earthen pot.”
The police got a notification by the cemetery security guard and the baby was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Speaking on the incident, the medical superintendent, Alka Sgarna who was in charge of her treatment said, “The baby had some infections and weighed only 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds),”
“The girl, who is currently receiving treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), had various respiratory issues and requires a ventilator.”
She further said that the baby was buried in an isolated area and she must have being buried for about four to six hours before she was rescued by the couple.
She added that investigations are ongoing to find the parents of the baby and they would be charged to court for attempt to murder and abandoning a child.
