The Senate Minority Leader, representing Abia South, Eyinnaya Abaribe, has reacted to the 2020 budget presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the National Assembly.
Abaribe argued that the budget is not sustainable, adding that the debt servicing was higher than capital expenditure.
The Senator further described the 2020 budget as a budget of taxation.
He said: “This is nothing but a budget of taxation. I urge the Senate to look at that fact as it is not a sustainable budget. Debt servicing is higher than capital expenditure.
“We are still struggling. I second the budget presentation by the Senate Leader.”
Also speaking on the Budget, Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial, Gabriel Suswam commended the President for the budget, he added that the senate needs to look into the rate of borrowing by the present administration.
He said; “I commend Mr. President for bringing an ambitious budget; the deficit worries me, there is a correspondence borrowing increase; we need to do something in this Chamber by way of legislation to address borrowing.”
