The proposal to place a five year temporary ban of importation of generators as a solution to energy crisis in the country has been rejected by the Nigerian senate.
The proposal was made by Senator Franis Fadahunsi and it was turned down on Tuesday by the lawmakers during the plenary.
In a motion sponsored by Senator Chukwuka Utazi on the need to proffer solution to power problems in the country, Senator Fadahunsi suggested that importation of generators should be banned for five years.
However his suggestion was heavily turned down by his colleagues immediately the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan laid it open to the house for a voice note.
The Committee on Power were charged by the Senate to investigate the causes of unsteady power supply and make findings on the activities of power generating and distribution companies in the country.
