Written by Rita Nwachukwu

Ahead of the Kogi State gubernatorial election scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 16, 2019, the governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai visited the state on November 14, 2019, to intervene on behalf of the state governor Yahaya Bello.

In a bid to convince the people of the state to re-elect Governor Bello, El-Rufai was said to have knelt down and pleaded with the people to forgive the state governor and give him an opportunity to serve again.

Residents of the state had accused Governor Bello of refusal to pay salaries, adding that the governor owes workers up to 30 months arrears.

While speaking to the crowd at the campaign rally venue, El-Rufai said Bello is a young man who is prone to make mistakes and from experience he has learnt from his mistakes.

His words; “People say that Governor Bello is a young man and a young man can make mistakes, and learn from them. So, I hereby beg you all to forgive Yahaya Bello; he loves Kogi, he has given the young ones better opportunity, he has empowered women.

“We must not repeat the mistakes of the past, we must not allow evil to prevail. We must not allow the memory of our great leader, the late Prince Abubakar Audu to be in vain.”

He further urged them to vote for the All Progressives Congress Senatorial candidate, Smart Adeyemi in the re-run against Dino Melaye of the PDP.
