How often do we hear that politics is a dirty game? It becomes dirtier when lives are lost in the process.
Just on Monday a female politician of the Peoples Democratic Party, Salome Abuh was burnt to death by some political thugs in Kogi State suspected to be loyal to the state governor, Yahaya Bello, Premium Times reports.
This happened few hours after the gubernatorial election in the state.
It was gathered that the woman who is the leader of Ochadamu Ward in Ofu Local Government Area was sleeping in her house when the thugs invaded and set the house on fire.
This was made known by the Kogi State Police spokesperson, William Aya.
He said, “It was a very unfortunate incident and the commissioner has ordered a thorough investigation to ensure that all those involved do not escape justice.”
He further disclosed that the woman was burnt beyond recognition and her remains has been taken to the mortuary for autopsy.
Further reports said a preliminary investigation carried out shows that Ms Abuh’s killing was a reprisal attack for the killing of an APC supporter in the community.
Mr Aya said, “There was a misunderstanding between Gowon Simeon and Awolu Zakari, both members of the community.”
“Mr Simeon stabbed Mr Zakari in the chest and he bled to death almost instantly.”
“They arrived at his uncle’s house where they believed he was hiding and set it on fire.”
“Unfortunately Ms Abuh was sleeping inside the house and she was burnt alive.”
