A social media influencer who appeared to live a life of luxury has had her ‘disgusting’ living conditions exposed by her furious landlady. Chinese internet star Lisa Li regularly posts pictures of her glamorous lifestyle to her 1.1 million followers on Weibo, with expensive restaurants and lavish holidays taking centre stage.
However, fans were made aware of the grim reality of her living quarters when the woman she pays rent to filmed the flat, which was littered with dog faeces, rotten food and rubbish. Landlady Ms Chen says she was forced to shame the internet personality when the property fell into squalor and alleged that Ms Li owed her 3,000 yuan (£341) in unpaid bills, according to online magazine Sixth Tone.
After filming the filthy house in Xi’an, northern China, she shared the footage online, claiming that even professional cleaners were refusing to take on the job. The video went viral, with more than 60,000 people commenting on it. Many of Li’s fans slammed her as ‘fake’ and claimed they would no longer watch her content.
In an interview with Pear Video, Ms Chen said she could not believe that this ‘beautiful lady’ was living in such ‘disgusting conditions’. She added that she had been trying to contact the star, but she was ignoring her phone calls and text messages.
After the backlash online, the influencer has apologised to Ms Chen and vowed to clean up the flat. She said she had not been keeping on top of her messages while on a business trip. The internet star filmed herself meeting the landlady to say sorry and the pair were seen shaking hands.
