KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to a serious motor vehicle collision at the R33 and R34 Lakeside crossing earlier today, involving a family traveling to their holiday destination.
?At approximately 11:35, emergency teams arrived at the scene to find a collision between a bakkie and a light motor vehicle (LMV).

The family of four, including a friend, were traveling from Gauteng toward La Lucia for a vacation when the LMV collided with the side of their vehicle in a violent collision.

?The scene was complex, with debris scattered across the R33/R34 junction. Initial assessments by paramedics revealed that two teenagers, who were passengers in the rear of the bakkie, bore the brunt of the impact. One teenager sustained serious injuries requiring advanced life support intervention, while the second teenager sustained minor injuries.

?In a dramatic turn of events during the rescue operation, the father of the family collapsed on-site due to the immense physical and emotional distress of the incident. On-scene medics immediately  attended to and stabilize him; he was subsequently treated for minor injuries. The mother was assessed and found to have miraculously escaped physical injury, though she remained deeply shaken.

?The driver of the second vehicle involved also sustained minor injuries. All injured parties were stabilized on-site before being transported to a nearby hospital for definitive medical care.

?The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) and local Fire Department were on the scene to manage the wreckage and ensure the safety of other motorists. While the intersection remained open, traffic was slightly affected for the duration of the recovery operation.
