One of conjoined twins separated in historic surgery in Limpopo passes away
One of the twin boys who was separated in a complex surgery at Limpopo’s Mankweng hospital in Polokwane in January has died, just weeks after the procedure.
Premier Phophi Ramathuba said the baby had multiple organ failure.
The twins were born joined in the abdomen and shared vital organs that made their condition both complex and life-threatening.
Ramathuba said the medical team did everything possible to try and save the baby.
“The baby tried to recover, we thought we were out of danger, because after two and a half weeks, we thought we were out of danger, and we were confident. Unfortunately, the past two days, the condition just changed, last night the condition changed to the worst,” said Ramathuba.
