South Africans urged to consume alcohol responsibly during Easter
The Drinks Federation of South Africa is cautioning South Africans to trade and consume alcohol responsibly over the Easter long weekend.
The federation notes that growing financial pressure on households this month may be a driver of the illicit alcohol trade.
It said research by Euromonitor International suggests increasing economic instability may further lead to the sale of counterfeit products at significantly lower prices.
The federation’s Dr Shamal Ramesar is urging consumers to purchase from reputable outlets only.
