Just in: Cape Town Residents Stone Man to Death After he was
A man was stoned to death in a mob justice attack on Friday afternoon in Bonteheuwel.
What Happened
On Friday afternoon during Easter weekend (just after 12 noon, in broad daylight), a man allegedly went on a shooting spree in the Kalksteenfontein area of Bonteheuwel (locally known as “Bontas”). He shot and wounded two people in different spots.
Community members from those areas immediately chased him. He fled toward Redberry Street in Bonteheuwel, where he ran into someone’s yard hoping for safety. A mob of more than 40 people caught up with him, pulled him out of the yard, stabbed him, and stoned him to death using slabs of concrete and bricks. Stones and bricks were later found scattered around his body at the scene.
Eyewitnesses described the attack as brutal and chaotic. One said: “They attacked him all over his body, they took slabs of concrete and threw it on him. It was horrible to witness something like that.” Another noted that younger attackers (“jong laaities”) overpowered him, took his gun (with one reportedly saying “dis os gun” — “this is our gun”), and “stof’d him af” (stoned him thoroughly).
His mother and two sisters later came to the scene to identify the body. The deceased was described as an adult male who was apparently involved in gangsterism
