Armed hijacking targets City Power contractors in Alexandra:
Two contractors working to secure critical electricity infrastructure in Alexandra, JHB, were hijacked at gunpoint this afternoon.
The incident occurred around 12:30 between 11th and 12th Avenue and Hofmeyer Street (now Richard Baloyi Street) in Marlboro, where the team was welding and reinforcing mini substations as part of efforts to curb ongoing vandalism.
According to City Power, five armed suspects travelling in a white Toyota Avanza without registration plates approached the site, threatened the workers, and seized the vehicle keys before fleeing.
The suspects made off with a white Nissan NP200 bakkie loaded with tools, including a generator, welding equipment, and personal belongings.
City Power condemned the attack, warning that such incidents not only endanger workers but also disrupt efforts to safeguard essential infrastructure and maintain a stable electricity supply.
