The Police in Limpopo have arrested over 721 suspects for various crimes across the province during an ongoing high density operations, #OperationShanela starting from Monday, 13 April 2026 until on Sunday , 19 April 2026.
The operation was carried out through roadblocks, stops and searches, vehicle check points, tracing of wanted suspects, visiting liquor outlets and inspections by various SAPS units, Traffic Police, South Africa National Defence Force (SANDF), Department of Home Affairs and private security, focusing on Trio crimes, Aggregated robbery, wanted suspects and Gender based violence among others.
The following arrests were effected:
- 04 for House robbery
- 63 for Assault GBH
- 14 common assault
- 08 attempted murder
- 10 murder
- 15 rape
- 62 possession of drugs
- 16 illegal possession of second-hand goods
- 81 illegal dealing in liquor
- 34 dealing in drugs
- 15 illegal possession of ammunition
- 03 illegal possession of unlicensed firearms
- 24 possession of dangerous weapons
- 02 theft of motor vehicle
- 17 Malicious damage to property
- 109 illegal immigrants
- 20 driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- 45 illicit mining
- 572,903 liters of beverages (liquor).
- 18 rounds of ammunition

The arrested suspects have already started appearing at different Magistrate’s courts.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the success achieved during the operations and encouraged all law enforcement agencies to come together in the fighting of crime.
