CIT suspects arrested as he reveals the popular person who gives them information
On Friday 24 April 2026, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU) Officers, in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) Highway Patrol Unit Officers and Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI/HAWKS), arrested two(2) male suspects aged thirty (36) and forty-one (41) years, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the Vosloorus area.
Following information regarding the suspects linked to a cash-in-transit robbery reported earlier in Vosloorus, they received a tip-off regarding a suspect allegedly attempting to sell a rifle, which he was transporting in a dustbin.
Officers followed up on the information and proceeded to a residence on Goma Street, where they found the first suspect. After identifying themselves, Officers questioned him about the firearm. The suspect admitted to selling the rifle for R500 and offered to take Officers to the buyer.
They proceeded with the suspect to the Vosloorus hostel, where they located the second suspect. Upon searching the premises, Officers recovered x1 R5 rifle, x1 black Norinco Star pistol, x2 magazines and x66 ammunition hidden under a mattress. A correctional services uniform was also discovered during the search.
When questioned, the second suspect produced a valid licence for the pistol but admitted he did not store it in a prescribed safe. He further confirmed that he had purchased the rifle from the first suspect. He also claims that they get their information from someone very high up and popular, but has failed to reveal who at the time of reporting this.
Both suspects were arrested and detained at Vosloorus Police Station. They face charges of theft, possession of an unlicensed firearm and failure to safely store a firearm in accordance with legal requirements. They are expected to appear in the Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court soon.
