Bigger March against coronation of ‘Nigerian king’ expected in
Cars were torched and a building was partially burnt after a protester was stabbed, allegedly by a foreign national.
Progressive Forces of South Africa said it will picket outside the Nigerian Embassy against the coronation of a ‘Nigerian king’ in the Eastern Cape.
Progressive Forces of South Africa’s Gugu Nkosi said, “We want to know who organised and participated in the installation of an Igbo King in East London, what is their legal status and under what authority such actions are being carried out within our borders?”
Nkosi said other civic organisations supporting the picket will participate.
“At this stage, we do not feel satisfied by the actions taken by the government. There hasn’t been enough transparency or urgency in addressing these concerns, and until that happens, we have to enforce our way to get clarity, but we will be doing this through peaceful civic actions.”
