The South African government said that it is taking into consideration Israel’s response in the genocide case concerning the Gaza strip.

The country filed the case before the International Court Of Justice in October 2024, accusing Israel of violating international law and committing acts amounting to genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel submitted its response on Thursday, after being granted two extensions to reply.

Presidency Spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said that government will now decide whether to request the court’s permission to make further written submissions in reply or to proceed directly to the oral phase of proceedings.

The case comes amid escalating humanitarian concerns in Gaza.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has warned that conditions remain dire, with ongoing airstrikes, shortages of food and medical supplies, and extensive damage to critical infrastructure, leaving the civilian population in urgent need of assistance.
