A high-stakes intelligence-driven operation has led to the dismantling of a #StockTheft syndicate following the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of high-value Bonsmara cattle stolen from an agricultural school near Bloemfontein.
The breakthrough came after a coordinated effort between the Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Thabong Crime Intelligence, and the Selosesha Tactical Response Team (TRT).
The operation, spearheaded by the Surveillance Section of Crime Intelligence, commenced at 18:00 on Thursday, 12 March 2026. Acting on credible information, the team utilised an undercover agent in an authorised “entrapment” operation conducted in accordance with Section 252A of the Criminal Procedure Act.
It is alleged that at approximately 01:30 the following morning, the suspects met with the undercover agent to conclude a transaction. During the exchange, the suspects provided Bonsmara cows with an estimated market value of R300,000. The livestock was exchanged for a cash payment of R20,000 provided by the agent.
Immediately following the transaction, operatives moved in and apprehended the suspects at a petrol station in the Bloemfontein vicinity.
The three male suspects, aged 43, 42, and 29, were arrested on charges of stock theft and possession of suspected stolen livestock.
The suspects remain in custody and are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court
soon.
