Fannie Nkosi Fears for his life if taken to Kgosi Mampuru Prison
Nkosi is being investigated by the newly formed Madlanga task team set up by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
He’s told the court that he hasn’t eaten since his arrest on Thursday because he fears for his life.
During proceedings on Tuesday, the prosecutors informed the court that they plan on opposing bail for Nkosi, requesting time to investigate and prepare for his application.
But Nkosi’s lawyers were adamant that his bail application must be heard, a plea that Magistrate Rene Venter ruled against.
Nkosi must now be remanded in custody until Monday, but his lawyers tried to request the court to make an order that he be kept at the Valeria police station and not be taken to the Kgosi Mampuri Prison for safety reasons.
However, the court was informed that a detainee cannot be kept at the police station for than three days and Magistrate Venter ruled that Nkosi be kept in the hospital wing of the prison ahead of his bail application on Monday.
