Holiday Tragedy strikes as woman takes her last breath in
What was intended to be a coastal getaway turned into tragedy this morning when a woman in her mid-40s passed away despite an exhaustive 90-minute resuscitation effort by emergency paramedics.
At approximately 07:00 AM, a specialized KwaZulu Private Ambulance Scene Safety unit was in transit to Hillcrest for a scheduled meeting. The crew had made a brief stop at a service station in Cato Ridge when the routine morning was shattered by a frantic civilian pleading for help.
The paramedic followed the distressed man to a parked vehicle where they discovered a female passenger, unresponsive and showing no signs of life. The patient was immediately removed from the vehicle, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was initiated in the parking lot as backup Advanced Life Support units were dispatched to the scene.
The couple, who had been engaged for only two weeks, were traveling from Johannesburg to Umhlanga to celebrate their recent engagement. It was later revealed by the grieving fiancé that the woman, a mother of two, had been complaining of persistent chest pains for the past 2 weeks.
Despite the arrival of additional crews and a grueling one-hour and 30-minute battle to restore her heart rhythm, the patient’s condition did not improve. Every available medical intervention was exhausted; however, she was tragically declared deceased on the scene.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and the fiancé during this unimaginably difficult time. We urge the public to never ignore persistent chest pain and to seek medical evaluation immediately. Always listen to your body, chest pain is an emergency.
