The multidisciplinary operation involving the Provincial Anti-Hijacking Task Team, Provincial Tracking Team, and Crime Intelligence led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of a stolen vehicle on Friday, 27 March 2026.

The astute members were conducting tracking and tracing operations when they received information about a suspicious silver Toyota Fortuner travelling along the N4 towards Komatipoort.

The team was immediately mobilised, and while on a lookout near Matsulu, members spotted the vehicle. A tactical stop was executed, and a male driver was found in possession of the vehicle.

Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be fitted with false registration plates that did not exist. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Lyttelton, Gauteng, in March 2026.

The 36-year-old driver was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle was being transported towards Mozambique. While some members were still processing the scene, an accomplice contacted by the suspect met with police and  attempted to bribe officers by handing over a blue plastic bag containing cash amounting to R19 400-00. The attempt was rejected, and the individual was immediately arrested for bribery.

Both suspects, aged 36, are expected to appear in court soon. #TrioCrimes
