Just in: Kwazulu Natal TAXi Crash Leaves Scores Injured

Five (5) people were injured after a minibus taxi crashed into a tree on Prickle Pear Road in Waterloo – KZN today (Monday).

Four (4) scholars and one (1) adult female were among the injured. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out for assistance by a member of the public.

On arrival, Reaction Officers established that the Toyota Quantum was travelling uphill when it allegedly experienced brake failure. The minibus rolled back down the steep hill before the driver lost control and veered off the road, colliding into a tree.

An elderly female passenger reportedly jumped from the moving vehicle as it gained momentum downhill. She sustained serious head injuries.

Four (4) scholars sustained minor to moderate injuries. The injured were stabilised on scene by Paramedics from a private ambulance service before being transported to hospital for further medical attention.

The driver was not injured.
