Over 50 spent cartridges were recovered from the crime scene where a shootout between a group of security officers working in the KwaDukuza and Maphumulo taxi associations took place on Friday.

Tensions have once again resurfaced between the two associations over routes.

It’s been 40 years since the conflict started, with many people killed over the years.

The latest shootout linked to the warring taxi associations raised the alarm for law enforcement agencies to weigh in.

Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said he could not just sit and watch.

“When people are shooting at each other in an open area like that, behaving like they are in a wild west, it is a concern. We are fortunate that no one was injured incident but over 50 cartridges were picked up after the shooting that happened yesterday between the two taxi rivals so that is why we are here.”

Meanwhile, more than 25 firearms were taken in for ballistic investigations.
