Man Declared Deceased Despite Resuscitation Efforts: Westbrook Beach – KZN
A 50 year old man was declared deceased after collapsing on Westbrook Beach in Westbrook – KZN this morning (Monday).
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched after a beachgoer reported a possible drowning. Reaction Officers proceeded to the scene while the RUSA Robinson R44
Helicopter had been pre-flighted in the event that an aerial response would be required.
On arrival, Reaction Officers found Paramedics from multiple private ambulance services
conducting Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on an unresponsive male on the shoreline.
It was established that the man was from Klerksdorp – North West Province and was holidaying in KZN with his family.
According to information gathered, he had exited the surf shortly before collapsing. He is believed to have suffered a heart attack, however this could not be immediately confirmed. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, the man was declared deceased on scene.
His identity was confirmed by family members who were present at the time of the incident.
