Oh No, Driver Dead, 15 Passengers Injured in Horror Taxi Crash
Mi7 Emergency Medical Services teams this morning were dispatched to the Blackridge area in Pietermaritzburg after reports of a Motor Vehicle Accident on Mbubu Road.
They found that a taxi had overturned, resulting in its 15 occupants being left with serious injuries. The driver was still entrapped in the wreckage.
Medics from several service providers worked hand in hand to triage and treat patients on scene. Pietermaritzburg firefighters were also present, and used the Jaws of Life to extricate the trapped driver.
In total, Mi7 medics treated four patients, including a two-year-old. One of them required Advanced Life Support interventions. Unfortunately, once the driver was freed from the wreckage, his condition deteriorated fast. There were several attempts at resuscitation, but these were unsuccessful. He was declared deceased on scene.
All the injured patients were transported to various hospitals in the area. It is unclear how the crash occurred, but the taxi was the only vehicle involved.
We pass our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and wish all those injured a successful recovery.
