Springs residents defy authorities in hunt for gold

JOHANNESBURG – Residents of Gugulethu in Springs are determined to continue their illegal gold mining operation.

For over a week now, many have been searching for gold, with some claiming to have discovered traces of it.

But the municipality says it plans to stop this illegal activity by the end of the week.

Some claim they’ve already found traces of the precious metal.

The city has confirmed the land belongs to it and has vowed to halt the illegal mining by the end of the week.

But the community remain defiant.
