DRUG SUSPECT ARRESTED DURING INTELLIGENCE-DRIVEN OPERATION IN PHOENIX

The Durban Metropolitan Police Service confirms that yesterday, 19 February 2026, members attached to the Economic Infrastructure Task Team (EITT) and Metro Drug Team participated in a successful intelligence-driven operation in the Phoenix area, together with the South African Police Service.

An operational plan was executed after the identified target area was tactically surrounded. During the operation, the main suspect was apprehended along with several drug users found on the premises.

Upon search, the suspect was found in possession of:
● 24 capsules of drugs suspected to be heroin
● One replica pistol

The suspect is believed to be linked to gang activity operating in the Sydenham area. A case of possession of drugs has been opened at the relevant SAPS station.

This operation highlights the continued commitment of multi-disciplinary law enforcement teams in disrupting drug networks and tackling gang-related crime.
