Watch As Saps Officer Gets Arrested For Shoplifting Bananas
A 59-year-old police officer from Barberton has already appeared in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court after being accused of shoplifting bananas worth about R43 from a local supermarket.
According to reports, the off-duty officer allegedly weighed a packet of bananas at the pay point and received a price label. Store security later suspected that additional bananas had been added to the same bag after the label was printed. The supermarket’s control room alerted security at the main entrance, and the officer was stopped before leaving the store.
The incident is said to have happened sometime in FebruaryÂ
The bananas were taken back to be weighed again, and the second weighing reportedly showed the bag was heavier than the amount reflected on the label. The difference came to around R43.80.
The officer was detained at the store while the matter was reported, and a case of shoplifting was opened despite the small amount involved. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway and internal disciplinary processes within the police are also expected to follow.
Police emphasized that the officer will go through the same legal process as any other suspect, adding that wearing a uniform does not grant anyone special treatment after being caught shoplifting
