ANC Seriously Frustrated & You wont believe Why
Morero was set to face a no-confidence vote on Thursday, but the parties that filed it were nowhere to be found when it was time to debate the motion.
Councillors from Al Jama-ah, the United democratic Movement (UDM), and African Transformation Movement (ATM), who tabled and seconded the motion, walked out just before it was called.
Since December, Al Jama-ah has submitted three unsuccessful motions against the mayor, despite being part of the ANC-led coalition government.
The City of Johannesburg is governed by a coalition made up of the ANC, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Patriotic Alliance (PA) and smaller political parties, including Al Jama-ah.
The Al Jama-ah party also has one of its councillors and former mayor, Thapelo Amad, serving in the mayoral committee as the MMC for Community Development.
ANC regional secretary Sasabona Manganye said the party is tired of all these failed no-confidence motions.
“Whatever concerns they have, they must allow to work with them to address those particular issues. I can tell you now, none of those concerns are worth a motion of no confidence.”
Morero has survived three no-confidence motions from Al Jama-ah and one from the Democratic Alliance (DA) over the past year.
