National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola says he believes he is innocent in the matter involving the R360-million tender awarded to Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala. Masemola faces four counts of violating the Public Finance Management Act

Masemola has professed his innocence after appearing in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The country’s top cop has been charged in connection with the irregularly awarded multi-million-rand Medicare24 tender.

This is the same tender for which alleged crime boss Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and 12 police officers face corruption charges.

Masemola made a brief appearance in the Pretoria Magistrates Court. He faces four counts of contravening the Public Finance Management Act.

Speaking to the media, Masemola said he is undoubtedly innocent.

But the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)’s Kaizer Kganyago said there is a case against Masemola.

The matter has been postponed to May, where Masemola will share the dock with Matlala – a man who is alleged to be one of the country’s most notorious criminals.
