A tragic shooting incident reportedly took place yesterday afternoon in Avondale, Atlantis, in the Western Cape.
According to reports, a taxi that had stopped near a school was approached by unknown gunmen who opened fire, fatally wounding the taxi driver.
At the time of the incident, three schoolgirls were inside the vehicle.
All three were struck during the shooting.
It is alleged that one of the girls attempted to run from the taxi and sought safety inside the school premises, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The other two learners were injured and are believed to be receiving medical treatment.
Police are expected to investigate the motive behind the attack and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
