Tragedy on R56: One Killed and Six Injured in Horrific Multi-Vehicle Inferno, PMB
At approximately 18:15 this evening, KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to a scene of utter devastation on the R56, Brixham Road, in the Northdale area near Richmond Crest. What began as a response to a minor collision escalated into a fatal multi-vehicle disaster that has left one person dead and several others seriously injured.
?Upon arrival, first responders were met with a harrowing sight: three vehicles, including two passenger cars and a tow truck, were involved in a collision. One of the passenger vehicles was completely engulfed in a ferocious blaze. In a desperate bid to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent tow truck and further complicating the rescue efforts, the KwaZulu Private Ambulance scene safety vehicle utilized its onboard water supply to suppress the encroaching flames until the Fire Department could arrive.
?Paramedics braved the intense heat to assess the victims. Tragically, one occupant remained trapped within the burning wreckage. Despite the valiant and coordinated efforts of emergency personnel to control the fire and reach the victim, the individual succumbed to the fire and was declared deceased on the scene.
?Medical teams treated two additional patients who sustained serious injuries, including spinal trauma and significant burns. Four other individuals were treated for minor injuries, including various cuts and abrasions. All six survivors were stabilized before being transported to local hospitals for urgent specialized care.
?Preliminary reports suggest that a minor collision had occurred earlier on the R56. A towing vehicle was reportedly en route to that initial incident when the driver lost control and slammed into two other vehicles, triggering the secondary, fatal collision and subsequent fire.
?The R56 remains closed to all traffic while SAPS, the Traffic Department, and fire officials conclude their recovery and investigative operations.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes until the scene is cleared. The exact cause of the loss of control is currently under investigation by local authorities.
