Suspect killed, four arrested after police shooting in Athlone:
One suspect has been killed and four others arrested following a police shooting in Athlone, Cape Town, yesterday.
The group, allegedly linked to a business robbery in Lansdowne, was travelling in a grey Toyota Avanza without number plates when South African Police Service Flying Squad officers attempted to stop them.
The driver reportedly tried to ram police and fled, prompting officers to open fire. The vehicle was eventually brought to a stop.
Five suspects were inside-one was declared dead on the scene, another was injured and taken to Groote Schuur Hospital, and the remaining suspects were arrested.
An inquest docket has been opened, with Independent Police Investigative Directorate investigating the shooting.
