Three suspects were shot dead following a dramatic shootout at Highveld Mall after an armed robbery at a jewellery store earlier in the day.

A group of armed robbers targeted the store, but an armed response unit quickly intervened, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

Two suspects were fatally wounded inside the mall, while a third was shot and killed outside the premises.

Several other suspects managed to flee and remain at large, with SAPS launching a search operation to track them down.

Despite the incident, mall management has confirmed that the centre remains open and has assured the public that it is safe for shoppers.
